Staff can receive paid Bereavement Leave, to deal with the death of immediate family. (Immediate family may be defined as husband, wife, partner, father, mother, father in law, mother in law, brother, sister, children).
Leave of up to one week may be granted to make arrangements and to attend the funeral.
Further leave of up to a maximum of three days may be granted to the person making arrangements for subsequent visits to solicitors, tax office, social security office etc.
One day's leave to attend funeral of grandparents, aunt or uncle.
In the cases of other relatives and where particular circumstances exist, the line manager will consult with the appropriate Director of Children's Services or UK Director.
If you are a UNISON member then contact your UNISON steward if you are refused Bereavement leave by your manager and they will ensure the process is consistently applied for all staff.
