Information and Consultation regulations

From April 2005, the European Information and Consultation Directive gives employees a right to be informed and consulted.

Such rights include being: -

Informed about an organisation's economic situation

Informed and consulted about employment prospects

Informed and consulted about decisions likely to lead to substantial changes in work organisation or contractual relations

Under the new regulations employers will have to have to present their future plans at an early enough stage for workers (or their representatives) to influence them, and they have to try reach agreement.

Information and consultation has to take place at an appropriate time and AT the relevant level of management
