Your union, your vote24 April 2009You will have had the papers in the post- read below and why you should vote in the UNISON NEC Elections
The National Executive Committee (NEC) decides on issues and campaigns between conferences and works with UNISON staff to support members. NEC members also represent UNISON and its membership to the wider world. You want and deserve the best possible representation. The more members that vote in the National Executive Committee (NEC) elections the more representative our union is. The role of the NEC is varied and interesting and can be broken down into the following areas: ·representing members’ interests by ensuring that the union is run efficiently and provides the services members need ·involvement with committees and the national delegate conference to make sure decisions taken are in the interests of members ·representing the union at external events, talking on issues and upholding the values of the union, and reporting back to the particular group of members they were voted to represent – their electoral constituency – about the work of the NEC. Most NEC members represent either regions or service groups. In addition there is a young member’s seat. There are also additional national seats, including four for black members and one reserved for a low-paid female member The more members that vote in the National Executive Committee (NEC) elections the more representative our union is.
