UNISON believes health and safety in the workplace is an issue for everyone. Health and Safety law is very extensive. The basis of UK health and safety law is the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. This sets out the general principles of health and safety compliance and is supplemented by various Regulations, some of which apply to all industries and some of which apply to specific industries, types of premises or specific health and safety issues. Key Points -Your health, safety and welfare at work are protected by law. -Your employer has a duty to protect you and keep you informed about health and safety. -You have a responsibility to look after yourself and others. Please find a short HSE report here - Health & Safety Law; What you should know. This gives you a summary of the key duties and responsibilities both you and your employer has with regards to health & safety. Campaigns UNISON is at the forefront of major campaigns on: -Sickness Absence -Violence & Aggression -Bullying & Harassment -Workers Memorial Day For information on these campaigns please visit the Unison Health & Safety Zone, link provided at the bottom of this page.
