From 1 October 2004 new regulations came into force that require employers to have dismissal, disciplinary and grievance procedures in place.
* These must be exhausted before recourse to tribunals
* The statutory procedures are a minimum standard and some workplaces are likely to have more extensive procedures already in place.
* If you are a UNISON member being disciplined or are worried about being disciplined you should seek advice or intervention from a UNISON representative.
* UNISONdirect can take some detailed information about the problem, refer it to the branch and request that a representative contacts you at a convenient time.
* If you have already talked to a representative, UNISONdirect can contact the branch or the person you have spoken to, to explain that you still have questions and concerns to be answered.
* Fact sheets on the referral process (workplace problems) and on your right to be accompanied at hearings will be sent out to you following your call.
* If you have be asked to attend an interview or hearing, and are seeking representation, you should let us know the details of this, including
* Whether you have been asked to prepare a statement
* Date and location
* UNISON will generally represent members facing disciplinary action, but there may be cases where this will not apply.
* Who represents the member depends on the severity of the case and how the branch is organised.
