The law says that the worker has the right to be accompanied by one companion. The choice of companion lies entirely with the worker and is either:
1. a paid official of a trade union (regardless of whether the union is recognised or has other members in the workplace);
2. a lay representative of a trade union who has experience of or training in acting as a worker?s companion at disciplinary or grievance hearings;
3. a fellow worker
The Code also points out that workers may have contractual rights to be accompanied by persons other than those listed above.
