1. Arrange to meet your UNISON representative as a matter of urgency
2. Provide your representative with photocopies of any papers relating to your case, especially any notices of redundancy and documents giving reasons for the redundancy.
3. Does your Employer have a policy on redundancies, if so ensure your representative has a copy?
4. Keep a written diary of events as this could prove useful.
5. If other workers in the same area are affected, the representative should be informed.
6. Did the employer consult workers or your trade union about potential redundancies?
7. Has an alternative post been identified which you would be able to undertake?
If you are dismissed for reasons of redundancy UNISON will help you make a claim to an Employment Tribunal and provide representation as long as you have been a member of UNISON for a minimum 13 weeks membership prior to knowing that the post was to be made redundant.
